7 Reasons Why Reading the Quran is Essential for Every Muslim: Benefits and Rewards

7 Reasons Why Reading the Quran is Essential for Every Muslim: Benefits and Rewards

As Muslims, the Quran holds a special place in our lives. It is the word of Allah (SWT) and a source of guidance for us in all aspects of our lives. Reading and understanding the Quran is essential for every Muslim, and there are countless benefits and rewards associated with it. In this blog, we will explore seven reasons why reading the Quran is so important, including its ability to provide guidance, increase faith, and bring blessings into our lives.

As an institute committed to spreading Quranic education, IOMBD – Islamic Online Madrasha Bangladesh is dedicated to helping individuals learn and understand the Quran to reap these benefits and succeed in this life and the Hereafter.

Throughout history, Allah has sent numerous prophets and messengers to guide humanity towards the right path. As a guidebook, Allah has given us books and scriptures, and among all of them, the Quran is the greatest and final revelation. Muslims believe that the Quran is the word of Allah, and it contains guidance for all humanity. As a Muslim, it is our duty to believe in the Quran and follow its teachings. The Quran is a source of guidance for us, and it can help us find the right path in life. In this blog, we will discuss the importance and benefits of reading and learning the Quran, and how it can help us lead a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Allah SWT said that,

Meaning: The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. (Quran 2:185)

It is obligatory for every Muslim to learn and understand the teachings of the Quran, as stated in the book of Hidayah. The importance and necessity of learning the Quran cannot be overstated. The Quran is the word of Allah and it is the ultimate source of guidance and wisdom for all humanity. By learning the Quran, we can understand the true purpose of our existence, our relationship with Allah, and our obligations towards ourselves and others.

The importance and necessity of learning the Quran have been discussed below. It is crucial for every Muslim to learn the Quran:

01. Learning Al-Qur’an is obligatory for every Muslim

The first verse of the Quran,

Clearly indicates the importance of seeking knowledge and understanding the right path. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) emphasized this obligation in his Hadith, where he stated that acquiring knowledge is mandatory for every Muslim.

“Read in the name of your Lord who created you” (Surah Al-Alak-1)

Narrated by Hazrat Anas Ibn Malik (R.A.), the Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “Acquiring knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Moreover, studying the Quran is also obligatory for every Muslim. The Prophet (PBUH) instructed his followers to learn the Quran and the Law of Inheritance (Ilme Farayez) and to teach others.

The Prophet (PBUH) said,

“Learn the Quran and the Faraj (Law of Inheritance) and teach the people because I will be lifted up.” (Sunan at-Tirmidhi)

Therefore, it is our duty as Muslims to learn the Quran and the Law of Inheritance and apply its teachings in every aspect of our lives.

02. Reciting Al-Qur’an is the greatest act of worship

Reciting the Quran is the most significant act of worship for Muslims. The Quran contains guidance for a righteous way of life, and studying and understanding it is the best deed one can perform.

The Prophet (pbuh) advised reciting Bismillah (in the name of Allah) before starting any work, but seeking refuge with Allah from Satan’s evil incantations (Auzubillahi Minash Shaitanir Rajeem) was not mentioned before starting a task. However, Allah Himself commanded seeking refuge from Satan before reciting or studying the Quran. This is stated in the Quran:

“So when you recite the Quran, seek refuge with Allah from Satan.” (Surah An-Nahl-98)

This verse indicates that Satan gives bad advice in all matters, but he tries harder to misguide people during Quranic study. Satan is pleased when Muslims turn away from the Quran, and therefore it is necessary to seek Allah’s protection before studying the Quran. It is our responsibility as Muslims to strive to understand the Quran and implement its teachings in our lives.

03. Al-Quran is the only book of guidance

Al-Quran is the sole book of guidance for all of humanity. This holy scripture can guide every person to find the right path and enlighten them with the light of guidance. Allah says in the Quran:

“Verily, this Quran guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have a great reward. And for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have prepared a painful punishment.” (Surah Al-Isra 9-10)

“Verily, there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain book, wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His pleasure to ways of peace and He brings them out of darkness by His will unto light, and guides them to a straight path.” (Surah Al-Maida 15-16)

Guidance can only be sought from the Quran, and seeking guidance from anything other than the Quran will lead to misguidance from Allah Himself. As narrated in the Hadith:

“Whoever seeks guidance from a book other than the Quran, Allah will lead him astray.” (Sunan at-Tirmidhi)

Therefore, we must study the Quran, the only book of guidance, in order to properly understand Islam and follow the path of our lives.

04. Al-Qur’an contains solutions to all problems

Allah SWT has given everything in Al-Quran to guide the life of the world humanity. There is nothing that is necessary for man, but it is not mentioned in the Qur’an, but everything has been arranged and clarified in the Qur’an. Allah Ta’ala says,

“And We have sent down upon you the Book as a clear description of every matter, guidance, mercy and glad tidings for the Muslims.” (Surah An-Nahl-89)

If someone follows the guide of his life from this book, then he will achieve perfection in all areas. And if someone rejects something, then he will suffer in this world and the hereafter. Allah Ta’ala says about this,

“Do you believe in some parts of the Book and deny some parts? So what is the reward for those among you who do that in the life of this world except disgrace? And on the Day of Resurrection they will be cast into the most severe punishment.” (Surah Al-Baqarah-85)

Therefore, we should learn Al-Quran, be aware of all the provisions of the Quran and follow Al-Qur’an in every aspect of life, only then we will be freed in this world and the next life.

05. The status of the practitioner of Al-Qur’an

Allah sent Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to establish Islam as the one true religion, superior to all other religions on earth.

The Quran states that the Prophet was sent with guidance and truth to make Islam victorious over all other religions, despite the opposition of polytheists.

The Quran is considered the most respected and revered book in human civilization, and those who follow its teachings and establish its rules are promised entry into Paradise. In fact, they will be granted the right to intercede for ten family members who may have been destined for Hell.

It is narrated in a Hadith that those who study and strive to establish the Quran will accept halal as halal and haram as haram, and Allah will admit them to Paradise. This emphasizes the importance of studying the Quran and living according to its principles in order to achieve success in this world and the hereafter.

All Muslims are encouraged to study the Quran, follow its teachings, and strive to establish Islam in their lives and in society as a whole, in order to attain a high status in the sight of Allah and gain entry into Paradise in the Hereafter.

06. The path of learning Al-Qur’an is the path to Paradise:

Al-Qur’an education has been given so much importance that if someone goes out on the road for the Quran education or for the religion education, he has gone out on the road of Allah. And he remained in the way of Allah until he returned from this work. It is narrated in Al-Hadith,

“Narrated by Hazrat Anas Ibn Malik (R.A.), he said, “The Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “Whoever goes out to teach religion, he goes out in the way of Allah until he returns.” (Sunan at-Tirmidhi)

The way to gain knowledge of religion is the way to Paradise. Therefore, if a person continues on the path to gain knowledge, he will eventually find paradise while continuing on this path. And if he dies while on this path, Allah will grant him Paradise. It is narrated in Al-Hadith,

On the authority of Abu Huraira (RA), the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Whoever follows such a path; So that he acquires knowledge, Allah Ta’ala makes easy for him the path to Paradise.” (Sahih Muslim and Tirmidhi)

It is our responsibility as a single Muslim, to go there to study Al-Quran, no matter how hard it is, we have to study Al-Quran even after that.

07. Allah Remember the reciters of the Qur’an on the judgement days

The best thing to do in this world is to study Al-Quran and act accordingly in life. Those who study Al-Qur’an in the world, act knowingly, Allah Ta’ala will praise them on the Day of Resurrection and spread light through them because of their contact with this Qur’an. It is narrated in Al-Hadith,

“Narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abu Dhar Giffari (R.A.), he said, I came to the Messenger (S.A.W.). Then he narrated a long hadith. I said, O Messenger of Allah (PBUH), give me some advice. He said, I advise you to fear Allah. Because it will beautify all your actions. (Abu Dharr said) I said, O Messenger of Allah (SAW), give me some additional advice. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “If you recite the Qur’an and praise Allah in all circumstances, then you will be praised in the heavens and it will be a light for you in the world.” (Bayhaqi, Shuabul Iman)

So our responsibility is to study Al-Quran and follow the teachings of Al-Qur’an. Through this family, society will be enlightened and the darkness of ignorance will be removed.

In conclusion, it is of utmost importance for every Muslim to not only recite Al-Quran but also to understand it and implement its teachings in our daily lives. The Quran will act as a witness for or against us on the Day of Judgment, as mentioned by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Therefore, it is imperative that we learn the Quran and strive to live our lives according to its principles.
